Newsletter 18th October

It has been a busy half term at Heybrook.  We have more fabulous trips and activities planned for our topics next half term.  School is now closed and pupils return on Tuesday 29th October, we wish all our pupils and families a safe holiday!

Thank you for supporting our Harvest Festival and donating items to the Rochdale Food Bank. These will go towards helping families in need.

In Year 5 this term we have been learning about the elements. We made volcanoes out of papier-mâché and then took them outside to conduct a science experiment where they all successfully erupted.

Children in Year 5 have been tea tasting this week as part of their English work around the book, Cloud Tea Monkeys. They had to come up with description so that they could write a letter in character as the Royal Tea Taster. I’m not sure many of them were as delighted by the flavours as the tea taster in the book was!

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

Children in the nursery are bringing home a bag today to share with their families when they go on an autumn walk. We would like them to find colourful autumn leaves, conkers, acorns and other autumn treasures. Please can children bring them back to  nursery on Tuesday 29th October to share with their class.

Reception children will need wellies and a coat with a hood, as we are going to be outside a lot after the half term break.

Year 2  – are collecting plastic bottles for their ‘sparkle start’, please if you have any over the next couple of weeks, instead of recycling them, can you send them our way.

Year 3 – Our topic next term is all about rainforests. For the children’s homework we would like them to make a rainforest in a shoe box or a box of a similar size. Feel free to let your child use their imagination.   Please send the completed homework in on Tuesday 29th October 2019. We are really looking forward to seeing what the children create. They will also be used in our class display. Thanks for your support and help.

On Wednesday 13th November 2019, Year 2 children will be going on a trip to Knowsley Safari Park in Prescot.  In the next half term, children will be learning about animals and their habitats so the aim of the trip is to connect the children with the natural world and bring learning to life.  The children will take part in a range of educational activities including a workshop, guided safari coach tour and a guided foot safari tour.

As part of this visit involves being outdoors, we ask that on this day children wear sensible shoes and an appropriate waterproof jacket. Please be aware that children will still be expected to wear school uniform on this day.

Children will be leaving at 8.30 am and returning approximately for 3.30pm.  Children will have to be in school no later than 8.15 am, as we will be leaving promptly.

School will provide a packed lunch for the trip.

We no longer give out travel sickness tablets.  If your child is travel sick, any tablets/medicine should be given at home

Please complete and return the attached permission slip.   The cost of the trip is £15 please make a payment on ParentPay before Friday 8th November 2019.

Mrs Rahman, Miss Stringfellow & Mrs Illingworth (Year 2 teachers)

As part of our Topic work this year, Year 5 will be going on an Orienteering trip to Rivington, Bolton, on Thursday 14th November 2019. The trip will give the children the chance to use their map skills which they will acquire in Geography to get them to a set location.

In order for us to arrive at the activity centre with enough time to complete the tasks set we will need to leave the school at 8.30am prompt, therefore we will need all children to arrive at school for 8:00am. All the activities will be complete by 1.00pm so we hope to return to school by 2.30pm meaning they will be here for the normal 3.15pm pick up from the back playground. If your child is usually sick during travel, please ensure you give your children a sickness tablet before they arrive at school on the day of the trip.

As the children will be working outdoors, they will need to wear appropriate clothing for the time of year. This includes; waterproof coat and bottoms, jumper, thick trousers (jogging bottoms), waterproof footwear (wellies or walking boots – not trainers), hat, scarf and gloves. Please also bring a rucksack with a change of shoes (trainers) to change into afterwards.

All children will be provided with a grab bag for lunch. Those who normally have packed lunch must pay £2.20 via the parent pay app.

We are asking for a £10 contribution towards the cost of this trip.  If you have any questions about the trip, please feel free to contact us at school.

Please fill out the permission slip at the bottom of the letter and return to your child’s class teacher no later than Tuesday 29th October 2019. Please pay via Parent pay.

We are really looking forward to this trip and we are sure that the children will enjoy it too.
